The Lookout Foundation: Building a Brighter Future
Driving positive impact in our communities.
The Lookout Foundation’s mission is to support Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) education for women, girls, and underserved groups, and to champion security and privacy rights for all. We invest in impactful nonprofit organizations serving the communities where our employees live and work.
The Lookout Foundation is a public, nonprofit 501(c)(3) charitable organization. The Foundation is run entirely by our employees on a voluntary basis, with an employee-led advisory board that decides where and how the Foundation’s time and resources are shared with local organizations.
In 2016, our founders joined the Pledge 1% movement and committed to donate 1% of company stock to fund the Lookout Foundation’s activities, 1% of our employees' time, 1% of equity, and 1% of our product to impactful nonprofit organizations. By supporting local organizations in our own communities, success means more than profits. It means creating opportunities for the underserved, which is profitable for all of us.
Day of Shecurity
In 2017, The Lookout Foundation co-created the Day of Shecurity Conference to advocate for the inclusion of women in the cybersecurity industry. The exponential growth in the success of Day of Shecurity over the years illustrates the positive forces in the tech industry that are determined to reverse the lack-of-diversity trend and the interest of qualified women in exploring careers in the field. The Day of Shecurity Conference empowers women through training, networking, and access to hiring managers.
Lookout has contributed millions of dollars to help bridge the gender diversity gap in tech through the Lookout Foundation’s Day of Shecurity and other Women in STEM initiatives.
Non-Profit Grants
The employee-led Foundation advisory board is responsible for identifying nonprofits that support our mission, collecting and reviewing grant applications, and determining and distributing grants. In addition, the Foundation matches employee donations up to $1,000 USD (or equivalent in local currency) per employee per year to verified nonprofit organizations.
Random Hacks of Kindness
The Foundation formalizes opportunities for teams to donate their time in local communities through our Random Hacks of Kindness volunteer program. In addition, individuals are encouraged to take up to three days per year of paid time off to volunteer with organizations that support their personal passions.
Global Disaster Relief
The Foundation’s advisory board coordinates volunteer efforts, launches employee matching fundraising campaigns, and distributes emergency relief funds to provide immediate assistance and supplies to affected communities. Together with our employees, the Foundation has donated hundreds of thousands of dollars to COVID-19, refugee, and natural disaster relief efforts globally.
