Lookout Positioned as a Leader in IDC MarketScape 2018 for MTM

The IDC MarketScape recognizes Lookout as a Leader in the Mobile Threat Management market with the size, focus, and expertise to advance our vision of post-perimeter security.

The recently published IDC MarketScape: Worldwide Mobile Threat Management Security Software 2018 Vendor Assessment (IDC #US44521018, December 2018) highlights the trends driving increased adoption of mobile security solutions and the vendors leading the market. “As mobile security and governance frameworks mature, mobile threat management (MTM) software tools are filling a major security gap many enterprises are discovering across one of their most pervasive technology deployments: smartphones and tablets used by employees.”*

For the second year in a row, this IDC MarketScape report recognizes Lookout as a Leader with the size, focus, and expertise to advance innovation in post-perimeter security. It’s a perfect place for security and IT leaders to start when launching a mobile security initiative, since it provides a clear and concise evaluation of mobile security vendors.

IDC MarketScape vendor analysis model is designed to provide an overview of the competitive fitness of ICT suppliers in a given market. The research methodology utilizes a rigorous scoring methodology based on both qualitative and quantitative criteria that results in a single graphical illustration of each vendor’s position within a given market. The Capabilities score measures vendor product, go-to-market and business execution in the short-term. Criteria for Mobile Threat Management

MTM is the term IDC uses to describe Lookout Mobile Endpoint Security, this category is sometimes also referred to as Mobile Threat Defense in the industry. Phil Hochmuth, Program Director, Enterprise Mobility at IDC explains, "Many enterprises see mobile threat management software tools as a valuable frontline level of defense against mobile threats, as well as an emerging security technology requirement from a compliance standpoint."

Additional market research has led to projections of 100% YoY growth, scoping the Mobile Endpoint Security Market at $100M in 2017, and $200M in 2018.

The IDC MarketScape considers the following as broad criteria when selecting an MTM platform:

IDC Consideration Criteria 1: Look to MTM vendors that integrate well with key mobility management and enterprise security platforms, such as EMM/UEM platforms, SIEM, and threat intelligence services.

Lookout can seamlessly integrate with any Mobile Device Management (MDM) platform and has ready-built integrations with Microsoft Intune, VMware Workspace ONE, BlackBerry, IBM MaaS360 and MobileIron. Lookout can also integrate with any SIEM system including Splunk, ArcSight, and QRadar via our Mobile Risk API. Lookout is the only mobile vendor that is integrated with Microsoft Windows Defender Advanced Threat Protection.

IDC Consideration Criteria 2: MTM vendors with key partners in the mobile operator and carrier markets are critical in terms of deploying and supporting MTM software on devices procured through this channel. The more operator partnerships, the better.

Lookout has developed strong partnerships with mobile operators for global distribution of Lookout Mobile Endpoint Security including AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile, Sprint, Deutsche Telekom, and Vodafone. Through these partnerships, Lookout provides post-perimeter security at scale for enterprises and SMBs across all vertical markets.

IDC Consideration Criteria 3: Consider MTM vendors with strong understanding of underlying mobile OS architectures (iOS and Android), as opposed to vendors only with strengths around antimalware and cyberthreats, as the mobile market is more intricate than other endpoint/device security solutions.

With a dataset of 170 million devices and 70 million inspected applications, Lookout combines expert security intelligence and deep technical knowledge of Android and iOS mobile platforms to protect against the full spectrum of mobile threats. Lookout partners with Apple and Google to ensure software developments occur in lock-step with advances in the iOS and Android mobile architectures.

Lookout brings security and compliance to today’s digital workforce without compromising productivity, privacy, or user experience. Lookout’s unique technology secures corporate data for the modern employee workstyle, allowing users to work from anywhere, on any device, and any network.
